NCASS Online Course: Safe Use of LPG in Mobile and Outside Catering

In response to an increased demand to educate on gas safety guidelines and to help drive standards in the mobile and outside catering industry, The Nationwide Caterers Association (NCASS) is proud to announce the launch of its latest online course, "Safe Use of LPG in Mobile and Outside Catering."

This specialised course has been designed to equip caterers, environmental health officers and events & hospitality professionals with essential knowledge and practical skills to ensure the safe handling, storage, and usage of liquid petroleum gas (LPG).

Following the submission of a Freedom of Information request to local authorities across the UK, it was revealed that only 31% had received some form of training in mobile LPG in the last 5 years and knowledge of the safe use of LPG was significantly lacking.

The association has been working to improve safety standards in the industry after a series of serious accidents has left food professionals in need of hospital treatment.

Key highlights of the course include:

  • Comprehensive safety guidelines
  • The science behind the safety
  • Proper handling and storage techniques including the transportation and siting of cylinders
  • Emergency preparedness including fire reduction measures and firefighting equipment

In addition, NCASS is also due to begin a series of workshops which build on the online course. These workshops are tailored for local authorities and event organisers, providing practical insights, outlining real-life scenarios, addressing common challenges and illustrating enforcement scenarios. Facilitated by an NCASS Gas Safety Consultant and a qualified LPG engineer with extensive industry experience, these workshops offer invaluable firsthand knowledge on the nuances of mobile LPG usage.

These workshops can be organised for groups consisting of environmental health professionals or event organisers, providing face-to-face training and held at a venue of choice within the local authority. The workshop curriculum comprises five comprehensive and interactive sessions.

The online course can be accessed through www.ncasstraining.co.uk and NCASS Members can benefit from a significant discount on the course fee. The course allows participants the flexibility to learn according to their own schedules and pace. Upon successfully finishing the course, participants will be awarded a City & Guilds certification, acknowledging their dedication to upholding safety protocols in LPG handling.
